In the Picos de Europa, nature finds spectacular places to be displayed in all its splendor. This mountainous massif, which spans Asturias, Cantabria and León, offers some of the most beautiful landscapes to enjoy. And if you travel with babies or small children, one of the best options is to stay in one of the two cottages of El Encanto de Picos de Europa.
Located in the Sajambre Valley, specifically in Soto de Sajambre, northeast of León, it happens to be one of the accommodations where the comfort of the guests and the activities and equipment for the little ones are combined to perfection.
"La Casa del Árbol" (The Treehouse) and "La Abuela Aurora"
These are the two house available to visitors, both with living spaces designed exclusively for babies and children. They have all kinds of toys and areas to draw, and a room only for the little ones. The Treehouse, in addition, has a swing in the same room! This house is designed so that up to 2 families can live together, so that if the little ones travel with cousins or friends, or if on the contrary, they like to make new friendships, here they have the ideal space.
On the other hand, La Abuela Aurora was conceived as a more intimate space, for a single family, but otherwise has, in general terms, the same services. It is also ideal for couples getaways, although you can travel with children, as it is equipped to sleep for 1 to 3 children.
Among other useful objects, there are cribs, a portable changing table, a highchair, a small bathtub, protective bars on the bed to sleep in tranquility, and for excursions, a very practical baby carrier, all included in the price.
And if you want them to play outdoors, in addition to having the forest right next to it, since cottages are located in a small mountain town, the traffic of motor vehicles is very limited, with which the outer space becomes the best option to combine nature and fun.
Places of interest
In addition, several excursions can be made on foot, which the youngest can of course enjoy. In the same Soto de Sajambre, we find the Botanical Garden (which is a surprise for anyone who has arrived there without knowing what to find, as it is not signposted, although it is very close to the house and has no loss). It is a spectacular place to breathe the pure mountain air while still having contact with the town, and where there is also a wide variety of trees. It is a highly recommended visit.
Walking a little further, about 2 kms. away, there is “El Fortín or La Casa de los Gnomos”, in one of the most beautiful places in the area, on the way to the mountain refuge of Vegabaño. El Fortín, located in the middle of a beech forest, is a construction that was erected to defend the population during the Civil War. The name of Casa de los Gnomos comes from the stories and legends that give rise to the Fortín and its surroundings.
Already in Oseja de Sajambre, where Soto belongs, there is the “Cueva del Buseco”, a magical place to which it is essential to go with a lantern. And you will see that if the children carry their own, they will enjoy it much more! On the way, we find the Hermitage of San Roque and the Mirador of the same name, which offers unparalleled views of the Valley.
And if you are going to be several days and want to cover more territory, being so close to Asturias, you can take the car and go to Covadonga (it will take you about 45 minutes) to see the Sanctuary with its chapel in a cave and the magnificent views of the lake, or planting on the beaches of Ribadesella, also less than an hour away, where you can ride a horse or descend the river Sella, although here without the babies! :)
